Type: Succulent perennial

Size: 10 to 15 in. high; 15 to 18 in. wide.

Flowers: Brilliant colored flowers in orange, yellow, midwinter to early spring; leaves gray-green 1 in. long. Looks good in bloom, then fades.

Uses: Tidy border, ground cover, color accent, slopes, in heat. Untidy out of bloom. Fire resistive.

Wildlife: Flowers for bees. Deer resistant.

Soil: Well-drained.

Water: None to low.

Sun: Full sun.

Pruning: Prune lightly after bloom to prevent fruit capsules and encourage new growth. Remove any dead or diseased branches and stems.

Pests & Diseases: Susceptible to a number of common insect pests and fungal diseases.

Notes: Carpobrotus and Maleophora, other Ice Plants (same family), are much more vigorous spreaders. Lampranthus has about 160 species, of which only a small number are used. Hardy to 20° F.
