Size: 3-4 ft. high in bloom; leaves shorter.

Flowers: Brilliant deep blue-purple fragrant flowers, spring; long sword-shaped leaves are variegated light green and yellow.

Uses: Massed planting, bright spot, color, container, borders, near oak trees, rock gardens, in heat. Fire resistive.

Wildlife: Deer resistant. Rabbit resistant.

Soil: Rich, moist, and well-drained.

Water: Medium water spaced out, less often in heavier soil. Too much constant water discourages bloom.

Sun: Part sun to some shade.

Pruning: In fall, remove old dry leaves.

Pests & Diseases: No serious pest or disease problems. Susceptible to iris borer.

Notes: Slow growing. Parts of plant are poisonous if eaten. Hardy to –30° F.
