Type: Evergreen shrub

Size: 6– 8 ft. high and wide.

Flowers: Light blue flowers in sprays, spring; small dark green leaves.

Uses: Slopes , backgrounds, near oak trees. Fire resistive.

Wildlife: Habitat, leaves for caterpillars; pollen, nectar, seeds for bees, butterflies, birds. Somewhat deer resistant.

Soil: Must be well-drained.

Water: Low. Keep away from stem to avoid root rot.

Sun: Full sun to some shade.

Pruning: Prune after blooming. Avoid cutting off limbs more than 1 in. in diameter. Pinch back shoot tips during growing season to keep compact.

Pests & Diseases: Root rot from overwatering.

Notes: From chaparral, mixed evergreen, and coastal sage scrub plant communities. Hardy to 10° F.
